No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are non-binary and asexual flags Wario and Waluigi colored, respectively?
16·3 days agoGreat question op. Waluigi definitely fucks, makes zero sense

Android@lemdro.id•Android is adding a new Wi-Fi hotspot option that maximizes speed and compatibilityEnglish
2·3 days agoLike the last guy said, all about penetration. Higher frequencies just plain interact with stuff more, it’s why you only hear the bass from outside a concert and why people were worried about 5g giving em cancer. My 5ghz stuff goes to shit when it rains while the 2.4ghz doesn’t even notice. If you’re rural and connecting stuff between buildings/through vegetation 2.4 is still where it’s at, if everyone in apartment buildings switched to 6 they’re interfere with each others stuff less and all have better signal

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think standard batteries like A, AA, AAA, C, and D, 9V etc will eventually become obsolete?
5·3 days agoMy hope is that the size/voltage standard lasts forever while traditonal alkaline pile chemistries become obsolete and fade away. Seems like that’s kinda what’s happening too, love seeing all the rechargable AA fans in this thread :)

4·3 days agoFun fact: amp hours are a measurement of discharge over time… I can probably explain this better with an example actually. 48v100ah is four times the capacity of 12v100ah, they can both put 1 amp for 100 hours but at different voltages that’s a different amount of… power? Energy? I always get them mixed up. Anyways the AA guys are 1.5v vs the ~3.7v of a phone battery, so the same amp-hour measurement is a little less than half as much juice. Hope that helps, I’m a little stoned tonight lol
I don’t know the science and have never heard those claims, but I do know critters and they sure are friendly. I would say the single easiest critter to pet, right up there with deer. They are absolutely aware that no one wants to eat them and being cute gets em fed
All it takes to do your own research is some cat food, they very much are lol. They’re smart and adaptable and fun to be around, great lil buddies

1·5 days ago15 years ago you were naive enough to believe their bullshit and public perception was still important to their success. “Embrace, extend, extinguish” isn’t healthy participation in open source. Think M$ was the one who actually stated things that way, but google was absolutely playing the same game
Very cool! It used to be the only option for text chat, and is still the backend for a lot of more modern chat stuff in games etc. There was DCC for sending files, phish for applying encryption, bouncers so you wouldn’t miss messages while offline, all kinds of stuff. Really useful protocol
This is a real question and I don’t mean to be rude, but… what did you think irc was for?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Not to get all religous but was not Jesus pissed for people making money in churches? Didn't he flip tables and everything? Then how do churches nowadays explain the collection plate?
15·11 days agoJesus was a dirty homeless activist with no love for the institutions of his time. Would genuinely fit in better in under any overpass than in any church. Cool dude.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I just wanted to compare FOSS Linux budgeting software
5·13 days agoI remember people making this same argument but for social media, doesn’t make any more sense now than it did then. Corpos are the ones in control of that tool, using it helps them so much more than it does you. If you don’t want to support the ideology that developed it, you really need to just not engage.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do you need, want and/or have a gun/guns?
81·13 days agoFor me firearm ownership is about responsibility and independence. If you’re going to eat meat, you should participate in the process and understand what it means. If you don’t trust the state with a monopoly on violence, you should be a part of distributing that power as widely as possible. Guns are one of the most powerful tools in the modern world, and I value them for the same reasons I value my drill or computer: they expand my capabilities.

“if you don’t want to work, then that becomes your job”
I genuinely enjoy working to directly better my situation. It’s completely different from being exploited to keep enough points in a bank account to survive
