about 20 years ago. Early 2000s I started messing around with Redhat and was suprised that a full OS that did most of the windows things was available for free. when Ubuntu gained traction I jumped on that and tried distro hopping a bit before landing aolidly on Debian derivatives as my linux of choice. I remember catching a ban in WoW because WINE was detected by their anti cheat for a while.

Your English is very good, is it commonly spoken there or do you have another reason for using it? If you had to estimate, how often do people speak Greenlandic, Danish, or English in their daily lives? What about the languages used in written media?
Do you ever go fishing? What are the shores like?
Dagamant@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•It's true that Character AI and similar services are useless without bots based on copyrighted characters?2·26 days agoNot really, people just lack the imagination or desire to create their own characters. It’s a lot easier to tell a bot “you are X from the show X” and let it use its ill gotten knowledge to fill in the personality than it is to write a whole personality prompt.

There are good games for VR but nothing that really screams “This is worth the extra $300+ to get a headset to play it”. At least not to me, someone who had a Vive and currently has a quest 3.

Dagamant@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What hyped thing did you fall for that you now regret and have to live with?2·3 months agoI keep getting lag in PoE2 for no reason. Everything will be running smooth and I’ll suddenly have a half second delay on inputs. My computer is better than the recommended specs so I can only assume there is some optimization they need to do still.
PoE1 blew the pants off Diablo 4 even with its feature bloat.

They tend to focus on the microbe phase but don’t really do it well. I think Spore killed a genera that didn’t exist yet and should be given a second chance.
Dagamant@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What hyped thing did you fall for that you now regret and have to live with?41·3 months agoAt launch yeah, Reaper of Souls changed it into a really good game. I spent $100 on Diablo 4 and definitely regret that.
Dagamant@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What hyped thing did you fall for that you now regret and have to live with?11·3 months agoVR in general, there is no killer app, no thing that makes VR worth the cost. The peak of VR is probably Beat Saber. I have a quest 3 and I just use it to watch TV in bed without disturbing my wife. It’s nice having a giant video display but not useful for most people.
Dagamant@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What hyped thing did you fall for that you now regret and have to live with?4·3 months agoI feel you, my first printer was garbage, my second one was SLOW, the one I bought last year is fantastic and it was cheap. You still have to go through some of the processes like bed leveling but new ones have some sensors that tell you where it isn’t level and adds a height map to the print to compensate for an uneven surface. It prints in 1 hour what took my old printer 11 hours to print. Most slicers are free and don’t require a key or payment to access advanced features. FDM printing is probably as user friendly as it’s going to get.
On the flip side, FDM printing isn’t super useful. You can make a bunch of random stuff but it’s mostly just nick nacks. Resin printing is way more useful but also way less user friendly. I plan to dive into resin printing this year because I’ve been doing 3D modeling and want to make miniatures and stuff for wargames, dice, and dioramas.
Either way, it’s absolutely useless if you have no use for it.

I was already on the “don’t preorder stuff” squad when NMS came out but I still shared the disappointment that everyone who bought it felt.

When I edited it I didn’t know it was a shared drive. I thought I was changing it for the one computer for the next class. So once I changed it, I moved to a different computer and then people started getting porn.

back in the 90s my highschool had a computer lab and we would go there for certain assignments. I think it was history class when we went to do “research” which consisted of clicking links in an html doc from a shared drive and summarizing the articles on them. Someone changed some of the links to go to a porn site. The only thing that happened was the teacher said “whoever did this is a sick person”. I don’t know if they investigated but I was never caught.

I installed windows onto a second drive on computer B and set Virtual box on computer A to use that drive as its boot drive over the network. I then shared the primary drive as well so I could boot computer B into either Windows install and run the other as a VM on Computer A.
I have no idea why I did this but it worked and no one was impressed.

Not as a way to have something so it for me but as something that can show me how to do something I am stuck on or give me ideas when Im drawing a blank.
Kinda like an interactive rubber duck. Its solutions arent always right or accurate but it does help me get past things I struggle with.

Is that price at full retail price or cost of parts. Either way, sounds like someone misjudged the market by a lot and needs to be ejected from their CEO role.
