This is the only thing I’d use it for, so it would be nice if it could do it.

Even worse, shés using Windows 11. But a friend of her’s who’s the IT guy for every old lady in the area loves Microsoft products and I can’t do anything against it.
Even proposing to be available to help wasn’t enough…

Stupid me, I didn’t see the link😅
If only my mom was also open minded about switching to Linux.
Offering her IT assistance wasn’t enough…

You have Arch in NixOS? I guess I don’t understand what NixOS really is, even if I’m interested in its ability to be reproduced from one computer to another.

Yeah it’s important to know that the first step in an issue free experience on Linux is just getting the right computer.
Still nothing beats a free computer and I’m really happy to have my wifés old MacBook Pro running Fedora for some tasks that my daily driver can’t do. Luckily the broadcom issues happens around once every 2 years for me and not with every update.
And my daily driver, a Microsoft Surface Go hooked to a big screen has other issues, like sometime being really slow when it’s usually quite fast for such low end hardware.
When I’ll inevitably have to replace these, I’ll try to find more suitable Linux friendly second hand devices…

Gcompris is great and you can find in Gnome Software manager.
I don’t know anything about wireless trackpads, but I love my workflow with Gnome and I know it wouldn’t be doable if I wasn’t working on a laptop.
Using the keyboard just wouldn’t be the same.
Yeah. At first you think that you still need some Windows programs so you dual-boot, and then you discover that you don’t need these programs anymore😅
I don’t remember how I did it but I guess it wasb’t so difficult since I had no previous experience.
But I think I only used it once and then moced to something else.
I heard that the Playstation 3 would be able to run something called Linux and I wanted to become some kind of Neo😅
Then I went on and off between Windows and Ubuntu until fully switching to Linux around 2020.
Running Fedora with Gnome these last few years.

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro.
This is what used to enable RPM fusion in Fedora and get the broadcom drivers:
https://ostechnix.com/how-to-enable-rpm-fusion-repository-in-fedora-rhel/
https://doc.fedora-fr.org/wiki/Dépôt_RPM_Fusion
It solved every problem but I have to redo the operation maybe once every two years.

On my wifés 2012 MacBook Pro, I had the same broadcom related problem and installing Rpm fusion solved it https://ostechnix.com/how-to-enable-rpm-fusion-repository-in-fedora-rhel/

I didn’t know this. But I guess the bank has to allow it.
Last time I checked my banks were only allowing you to do such things through an app or at the bank (which is far from my village).

Yeah I wish Framework, Tuxedo or Stillbook produced a Linux phone🤞

Yeah it’s part of the 2 factors authentification process.
Back in the days you received some card reader generating a code, but that ain’t the case anymore…
So Linux would need to have a native version of these apps or a way to efficiently emulate Android or iOS.

In my country, for all the banks I use, I need to have an app on my phone to access their website with my Linux computer.
So a Linux phone would need to provide this as I can’t be without access to my accounts.
Agreed as I’m using a Surface Go 1 with typecover (keyboard) as a daily driver with Fedora.
I’d get a used one to avoid giving money to Microsoft.

I’ve read 70% of your guide and it seems great. I just hope people (not on Lemmy) will easily find it on the web when looking for help.
Good work for our community 👍
It was a really enjoyable video and it’s the first time I see any video of the creator of a project I love. I also enjoy LTT videos even if people on Lemmy dislike him. I like the fact that he’s trying to have another platform than youtube, even if it ain’t the one I support (Peertube).
