There’s no shortcut you can use to achieve things simply, especially if you want actual anonymity (an extremely high bar). Installing GrapheneOS is the bare minimum (Calyx doesn’t even come close). Then you need to avoid services that ask for personally identifiable info, use VPN for everything (and use public wifi for initial setup), avoid a KYC SIM or SIM in general (also use airplane mode / wifi whenever you can).
But really I’m guessing you don’t actually need proper anonymity (privacy in general is more reasonable).
Did they? Installing APKs doesn’t require an account afaik, just a settings toggle (not even in developer mode, just the regular settings).
That can work, but it could go the other way too. We’ve already seen scaremongering claims like “right to repair will allow creepy car mechanics to stalk your location”, “encryption is used by criminals”, “local image scanning prevents child abuse”, etc.
What a waste. Literally dozens of other countries with capable research institutions but no space program that could have benefitted. Instead they choose to give it to the nation that kills kids for shits and giggles.
thought-stopping meaningless buzzword
Goddamn, that was impressive, you can tell there’s a lot of real enthusiasm there. He went so much deeper than I expected, I even learned a couple of things despite using Linux for 5+ years now. Great to see Linux being pushed to non-tech audiences.
Oh brother 🙄
Can’t speak for other cryptos (generally stay away), but Monero at least has a track record of being actually private/anonymous (unlike btc) and generally doesn’t fluctuate in price nearly as much as others (something the devs try to design into it). Several trusted privacy-focused services (VPNs, VoIP, etc.) accept it as a payment method. If I want to donate to Lemmy, I’d rather do so in a way that keeps my bank from knowing the details and keeping a record of that for who knows how long.
Yes, pretty easy - that’s exactly how I use it
I hate that quest devices are the only reasonably priced and widely available ones. Everything else is either super expensive, way too old, or doesn’t run standalone Android with sideloading access (meaning no true ownership of games you paid for via pirated copies).
Junk DNA is still a thing - some parts of thr genome are verifiably junk, and the rest is just “unkown”. It’s just that some of the “unknown” bits back in the day have now been found to actually be useful. At least this is my understanding as a non expert.
Let’s be real - this is to protect jizzrael.
There was no cold war with Russia?
The more peaceful protests have these kinds of consequences, the more people will start to see violence as acceptable.
Pick a closed source/cloud-based RSS reader. They usually include a bunch of news/topic-based feeds built in. Not recommended for daily use, but it’s a good way to get started (make your picks then export everything into an app like Read You). From there your list can grow organically.
I feel your pain. Aside from being slow as balls despite modern hardware, my Windows PC has a habit of occasionally locking up when I RIGHT CLICK on something T_T
Then it takes several minutes of no start menu/task bar, no trackpad gestures, no file explorer, etc before everything goes back to normal… for a few seconds before explorer crashes again. The only solution is a reboot.
I’m genuinely scared of doing anything on this machine.
Exactly! If it was just magic, things seem underwhelming all of a sudden - like why couldn’t you give zebras wings or laser vision? Why not have a grizzly bear with chainsaw arms on wheels? No ant computers or space octopuses? Makes nature seem arbitrarily limited and uncreative (and cruel) in comparison to what unlimited magic could accomplish.
(Just to be clear, this is not an argument against God since you could always just say “god set nature up to allow for natural evolution and has reasons for not going all out with creativity” - it’s unfalsifiable but you could believe that)
How has no one mentioned dinosaurs yet? You disappoint me, Lemmy.
