I haven’t read Lolita but I just started reading Pale Fire by Nobokov so it’s funny you brought that up. I have heard about Lolita getting adopted by the very creeps it intends to rebuke. I’ll have to check out her podcast on it
This should be the top comment. Great interview and great podcast
Oh man, caliber debates. This shit is way more complicated than just X is more powerful than Y

1·10 days agoIf you’re curious they talk about it quite a bit here.
One of the reasons I felt comfortable pre-ordering is they’ve been really upfront about their limitations and why they made the choices they made. It’s definitely not for everyone but for me it seems like it solves a bunch of issues I have with smartphones (and dumbphones)

Linux@lemmy.ml•What’s a graphical piece of software you wish existed or was better?
6·2 months agoWinSCP is a Windows tool I use at work to send files between machines and I wish there was linux version. Programs like Dolphin are similar but I always manage to find something I can do in WinSCP that I can’t do in the linux alternatives
Edit: commenters just pointed out a bunch of potential solutions I wasn’t even aware of, so I’m probably just dumb please carry on
This reminds me of the B gear in the Prius but it’s certainly very different

4·3 months agoMan, I landed a really good job I like where everyone is super chill and my work week is only 38 hours and I still feel it to some extent. Granted I feel way better than I did working crazy hours but I still feel exhausted
It’s entirely possible it’s user error on my part but I have not had the same issue with other distros. Only distros running KDE/Plasma seem to have the issue.
Any KDE super users could probably take one look at my setup and be like “oh, you just need to toggle the dooble-gonger and set flops to 9600” but I am far too dumb
i5 4690k (I think, can verify later)
EVGA GTX 1060 6GB
32GB RAM DDR3
I run most things fine but I always have problems with distros that use the KDE/Plasma desktop enviroment. I believe this is likely an issue with my configuration where it isn’t utilizing my video card or something and a smarter person would probably not have the same problem
I really love Ubuntu Studio but Plasma/KDE doesn’t seem to run well on my machine. Its the result of having old hardware and not having the expertise to figure out why it doesn’t run properly. If it weren’t for that I would use it.
One of the best cars ever made… I hate it
I briefly contracted at SHAP (the plant that builds the 1500) and you’d have to be drunk to buy one of these piles of shit
