Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a movie that "looks like" it would suck, but actually is well written and acted and a good time?
7·6か月前I watched it yesterday for the 2nd time (first time with my son). We laugh, we cried, we danced, we were shouting out loud and watched final battle standing on our feet. I unironically think it’s an excellent sport movie.

7·6か月前This is my favorite movie. It’s the best that was ever written about mindfulness.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What episode/season/movie do you consider as the ending in an otherwise long running franchise, and Why?
1·7か月前One the other hand, we have a lot of evidence that young human males are very horny… I don’t think it takes away from original Spock’s “maybe I’m suppressing more than I should” arc. It ads to it. And writing prequels is always hard, because your characters can’t evolve above certain point. The need to end low, because low is where they started TOS - their journey need to happen there. Most are basically pointless and lead nowhere. Young Sheldon can’t learn his lessons and grow because old Sheldon need to start broken.
Having secret “there is more story behind his silence and cold indifference” is a great way to have the arc and not brake the arc.

1·7か月前I believe that idea behind it is that his future TOS restrain is - partially - caused by his unhealed emotional wounds that he gained during his youth.

1·7か月前I think that Chapel arc s brilliant and it retrospectively fixed part of the TOS that didn’t age well, by adding hidden depth to character who was nothing more than a cheep joke.
Also without it we wouldn’t get “I’m the X”, which is objectively the best thing ever.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are commonly used idioms/metaphors that make no sense to anyone who knows about the topic they come from?
31·7か月前If that’s how it works for you, sure. But that’s not the point. I don’t claim that people learn one way or another, or Wich part is easy. The point is that a “steep learning curve” means something specific in psychology, and people use it to describe something different.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are commonly used idioms/metaphors that make no sense to anyone who knows about the topic they come from?
41·7か月前Sure. I could’ve been more precise, when people say or imply a “steep learning curve”.

102·7か月前There is a “learning curve” to it - used as "it will be easier after a while. It’s the other way around. Learning curve is when you learn like crazy at first, but than after you knock out all the easy wins your progres slows dramaticaly.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the worst "corporate speak/buzzwords" that you absolutely hate?
1·7か月前Are you a manager?

This is something that bothers me. Every time something like this come up, there is a non-trivial crowd of people saying things like “no shit. In the right circle, everyone known for a long time”. Often they come with specific anecdotes that should raise all the red flags.
Well, I had no idea. Not a clue. And it’s not like I was not interested. I was fallowing his work, social media… live in general. He was a very close friend with a woman who was vocal about being an abuse victim. Nobody told her?
Even in the power of hindsight, when I was looking for articles or comments from the past, there was not a lot. I found like one, “there is nothing he wouldn’t do to lure a goth girl” (paraphrased), that got zero traction.
If there were signs, why did we let that happen? What can I do, not to fall for something like this again?
