Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Karl Bushby: Made a bet in 1998 that he could walk from Chile to England. 27 Years later, Still walking. Survived Darién Gap, 57 days in a Russian prison, Traversing the Bering Strait on shifting ice
5·10 days agoI don’t see it in the article, but I found the following in Wikipedia’s Talk section:
Karl relates in his book that he hopes to walk through one of the service tunnels of the Channel Tunnel Tommfuller (talk) 12:03, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

271·10 days agoRead the wiki article above, it has links to other articles where it’s sourcing its information.
Link to article documenting his expedition across the frozen Bering Strait.“Karl Bushby reached land after 14 days walking across shifting plates of ice in temperatures reaching -30C.” “The ice was breaking up behind him as he walked across.”
However, it does appear that some of his walking has been replaced by swimming.
“In August 2024, Bushby started the swim across the Caspian Sea from Kazakhstan, planning to finish in Azerbaijan to avoid going through Iran or Russia, as both countries were then too dangerous to enter with a British passport. Bushby was accompanied by co-swimmer Angela Maxwell and two Azerbaijani national swimmers, Anastasiya Boborikna and Abdurrahman Rustamov.[15] Each day, Bushby and company swam in two 3-hour sessions: one in the morning, one in the afternoon and resting and sleeping on support boats each night.[16] The swim covering 179 miles (288 km) was achieved in 31 days with 132 swimming hours.[17][18] From Azerbaijan, Bushby then went to Turkey to cross the Bosphorus Strait into Europe”He’ll probably end up swimming across the English channel.Regarding his trek across the English Channel:

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•None of this "what are you thankful for" shit today. What's something you hate?
2·17 days agoSame, I’m also a man and I haven’t done any of those things either. I never said that all men are bad - I’m saying there are too many out there making the rest of us look bad, and I hate that. Chill.

7·18 days agoIt really isn’t, that’s a whole other subject entirely filled with its separate issues i.e. oppression keeping black people impoverished, more wrongful arrests made on black people, etc.
It’s ironic that you’re getting angry about a comment where I’m asking men to chill out. Chill, go read a book with some piano in the background.
If you want to have meaningful discussion about the stats and how men are misrepresented by them, by all means present your case respectfully and we can discuss it further.

131·18 days agoThe number of men that do those things compared to the number of women doing those same things aren’t in the same ballpark.

91·18 days agoI don’t feel guilty by association, and I am proud of how much I’ve grown and accomplished this far, I’m happy with myself - still hate those guys making the rest of us look bad though, and deservedly so.
People succumbing to all those biases do suck, but also I think collectively it sucks when there are people out there padding those stats and feeding into those biases further.

32·19 days agoExactly. If we son’t have anything to add besides what the upvote/downvote is already saying, we’d get endless “Same”, “This”, and “No” types of comments.

656·19 days agoI hate how a lot of men make the rest of us look bad. Can we just chill out for a bit? Like, can guys stop beating on their wives, molesting children, raping, and murdering? Please? Idk what to do besides just be chill myself and try to encourage others to be the same. Let’s just read some books with some piano in the background.
Yes, indeed - it encompasses parantheses, brackets, and braces.
I don’t understand - you’ve never read books?
What website would we mail order it from?

1·30 days agoI"m pretty sure that the voice of the instructor is AI, it bugs me so much lol. I’ve been trying to avoid AI as much as possible, so if I’m really struggling to find more info on what I’m looking for, I’ll resort to it maybe.
