There are some cogent points in there, but the author fails to realize that the problem with capitalism is the capitalists themselves. The issues they complain about are the inevitable consequence of allowing capitalists to own the means of production rather than the people. Capitalists care less about being patriotic and doing good deeds than they do about their capital holdings, and an investment in corruption and cronyism is one of the safest bets capitalists with sufficient power can make.

Even though the view you expressed is a joke, there are people whose real life politics are a joke.
Living paycheck to paycheck in the US often means working over full time hours across a few part time jobs and still not always being able to pay all the bills every month. No one should be ok being a wage slave no matter where they live in the world.

6·1 month agoCynics are dupes who are easily utilized by the forces which deliberately made them cynical. The foundation of conservative politics.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Guys and Girls of the fediverse who have made the decision to end a toxic relationship, did you choose to go to the gym? If so what has been the out come for you since then?
12·2 months agoGoing to the gym is way easier than the infinite treadmill of trying to fix relationship which was never going to work. Having a stronger body helps to deal with the physical symptoms of trauma too. It can build confidence because working hard in the gym yields rewards but working too hard backfires. You have to listen to your own body and your own feelings rather than have them dictated to you by a toxic partner, or it won’t work.
Agreed. It evokes a whole story. Either the Paladin is so overcommitted to their work to such a degree that they are willing to go on dangerous adventures or the society is so legalistic it’s the Paladin’s duty to accompany their cases wherever they go without exceptions. Alternatively, maybe the Paladin wanted to be an adventurer anyway to escape their boring life as a parole officer and found just such a situation that they can fufill their desires and duties at the same time.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you think about the concept of lesser evil? (i.e. when faced with selecting from two immoral options, the less immoral one should be chosen.)
9·4 months agoToo often this option is presented by people who are deliberately manipulating you and causing you to think that you only have the two choices which each benefit them and neither you. Always consider who is offering this choice and why. The true lesser evil here is whatever you have to do to get out of the situation where this choice is being presented to you.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why exactly does AI-generated comic/cartoon/2D art look so off-putting?
1·4 months agoIt’s an inhuman facsimile of the expression of humanity.
China has for decades deliberately designed their economy to provide affordable and quality labor to the capitalist world, and in all of the English speaking world capitalists are free to invest their money however they please wherever they please. Since it is cheaper to produce and import particular similar quality products from China than produce them domestically, that is what the right business move would be to minimize costs to maximize profit.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do people wake up in the morning and then sit staring into space for about 20 minutes?
3·5 months agoThis is not a universal phenomenon. This is the result of stress affecting sleep by causing sleep latency problems or the quality of the sleep itself leaving the individual non-refreshed upon waking and needing a refractory period to recover from sleeping before getting out of bed. The reason it’s coming up a lot more often is that greater numbers of people are experiencing the health consequences of chronic stress.
This appears to be stupid, and it is, but it’s mostly evil. Teaching children to accept absurdities and distrust evidence to make them easier to control.
If it brings me pleasure it is something I need, as I need to enjoy my life. On something like this I would just think about whether the cost justifies the amount of pleasure it would bring me. If I know I would get tired of it after a few weeks, I’m not going to blow thousands on it. If it’s a major enhancement of a hobby I’ve had for a long time which deepens my ability to enjoy it and I’m not risking anything else by spending the money, then it’s a decent investment in my happiness.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Superhero content fans, what kind of media do you want to see in the future?
4·7 months ago1930s style superheros where they stood with the people against the corrupt establishment rather than the other way around.
I think a lot of people are neglecting to think of Biden’s lifetime record in public office. The United States is the nation on Earth with the greatest proportion of its own citizens imprisoned and we have Biden’s 1994 crime bill in large part to thank for that. Unfortunately it wasn’t terribly shocking when he went on to be more supportive of the Palestinian genocide than any other president in US history other than Trump.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What discovery or invention do we take for granted?
4·8 months agoEmpiricism. We need to acknowledge that not everyone considers evidence when determining truth and encourage it way more than we do.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How would you define your white American culture?
12·8 months agoThe most central characteristic of whiteness is a belief in racism. It feels disingenuous because there is no white race other than what we’ve constructed socially for political purposes. English culture exists, Latvian culture exists, Russian culture exists, many American cultures exist, and white culture doesn’t exist and never has.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Getting super bored of most online/phone content, what do you do when you have a few minutes?
2·8 months agoSomething slow or still and beautiful. I relate to wanting some of my time back whenever I get the smallest moment only to find that nothing is good enough to balance out the activity of rest of the day. Low stimulation activities are also not good enough and are boring but can be a much needed moment to get grounded. The best solution is to address what’s really draining you and address it in a way that is not as draining for you. Far easier said than done, I know.
You get to impress the worst people in the world by giving them a number which generally indicates the quality of your education. Other than that, it’s pretty useless.

It is racist. I hope one day you will undersand why it is instead of becoming defensive about it. Just know that regardless of your intentions or understanding, when you say this word other people will correctly interpret that you are being racist.
