This literally affects people’s professional relationships and close personal connections.
No my friend, Apple has perfected lock-in and turned it into an art. Just because it doesn’t affect you doesn’t mean it’s not an issue.

None of this is done for security or as a means for the best possible customer experience. It’s done for the sole purpose of forcing income they couldn’t achieve with innovation alone. I’ve heard so many tech reviewers and even my own personal friends who say they would love to switch if only to try something else. They say they’d switch today if their friends, family and coworkers wouldn’t get mad at them. Apples only real innovation over the past ten years has been built in social pressure.

I’m sure big tech is stoked on this idea. I mean, they were always able to figure out who most people were but now people have to straight up enter their identification and positively confirm.
I’m sure no one will use that information for nefarious reasons, right?
Windows and Mac OS are both closed source but both allow apps outside an app store. No issue with the code base there.
Even worse. Games with a mysterious auto save “feature” that don’t allow a manual backup save. There’s a special place in hell for those developers.
I’ve never understood why it’s so hard to re-purpose an old android phone as a TV streaming box. I have an old One Plus that would blow the Nvidia Shield out of the water but as far as I can tell nothing exists that make that possible. It has HDMI via the USB C port but no way to add a remote and use the TV interface. The ability to sleep when the TVs CEC signal sends a power off command would also be a requirement for me.
MiDaBa@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•The home page of my $1700 smart TV has a full page ad about watching ads6·3 months agoLG is one of the worst. Only TVs with ROKU are worse for privacy concerns. ROKU, LG and Samsung make Google look good when it comes to invasion of privacy.
I’ve been against the idea of smart TVs from day one. A good panel will easily have a longer life than whatever smart box they shoe horn into TVs now. That’s reason enough to avoid that trap.
Mark my words on this: on top of the privacy invasion Future smart TVs will be designed to slow down to the point of being unusable well before their panels wear out to force upgrades and prevent third party repairs.
Because then you’d really have to suck to enjoy capitalist cost cutting lemonade.

The Samsung keyboard definitely looks better but underperforms both gboard & SwiftKey when it comes to swipe typing, auto correction and spelling. I very much wish it was the best because I’m getting tired of the other two trying to force AI features on their keyboards.
I’m fairly certain it’s getting worse.
I wouldn’t mess with that truck if I were you. It’s obviously boobytraped.
