  • How about europe? EU alone has 450 million people with higher density living than USA and neighbors like Russia, Turkey and very short boat ride to Afrika and middle east, not to mention recent and not so recent wars that left millions of guns and and even more munitions, and explosives in the cellars and attics of people.

USA has multitudes of more gun related violence than whole EU.

I just cant understand how you guys see the problem and just resist doing anything to it. Like its some great victory for freedom to have children have to do shooter drills in schools. Espesially when there are so easy steps you could do.

  • I live in a country where there are about 30 guns per 100 citizens and over half of the adult males have served conscription and we have one of the lowest amount of gun related violence in the world because strick gun control

The tyrannical goverment argument is strawman. USA alredy has soldiers (national guard) walking in cities, minorities are unlafully detained by troops without showing any signia or seemingly needing any due process for their acts. Bombing and attacking neighboring countries, sinking civilian ships on international waters. 1.25 million citizens are in federal custody in system that is designed around to keep minorities in prisons whitout any care of rehibiliating them because the law essentially gives the goverment the right to use them as a slave labor. Your workers rights are a joke where any employee can be fired without any reason, unless they have managed to somehow unionise in the system that gives companies every change they can to crush unionising.

The second amendment is joke that people seem to cling on thinking some addition made to a paper, your president seem to ignore at every turn it suits them, would be somehow relevant in after hundreds of years have passes since people who wrote it have allready died. If it had any real meaning in the original meaning, there would allready be some militia rattling around.

Just google little around and look how mysteriously in countries with strick gun laws have less gun releated violence.

  • How many school shooting has been done using pepper spray vs guns?

How many unintentional discharches has let to death with pepper spray vs guns?

How many drive by’s have been done with stolen/illegal pepper sprays vs guns?

How many times police officers have been killes by a pepper spray vs gun, that perp took from the victims house?

How many times officers have mistaked victim as threath when they have had pepper spray vs gun on them?

Did you know that if assailant is pretty close to you or if you panic even a little, you might shoot yourself or miss the assailant completelly when pulling the trigger? Missing a shot won’t make a person to drop a knife. Using gun may lead to somebody elses death than attackers.

If normal civilians did not have so many guns there would be less guns in rotation in the streets. The less there are guns in rotation the more expensive they are. Normal thugs wont use guns in petty robbery if they costs 15 000$ in black market, but if they can buy one from the street with 300$ you bet your ass the robber will bring the gun.

Also when its likelly that the perps have guns police will always act like they have guns leading to police using violence and excess force also in situations where its not needed.

  • Youd be supriced how much simple everyday things use maths and you dont even notice. When you look at the speedometer and calculate im your head how long its going to take to arrive you are doing supricingly complex math. Add how much it will use gas and how far you can get with full tank.

Same when you compare two different sized packages of the same product and try to asses which one is more bang for your buck.

Or if you are trying to calculate is it legal to drive after night out now or should you wait for an hour.

After a weekend trip with your friends when you start to tally who brought what stuff and how expensive it was and who is the vegan who did not eat the steak but brought case of wine that everybody was drinking exept Steve who was the dedicated driver. Then there was Sarah who was only one night at the rented house while everybody else was there two nights, but she bought the steaks and other meat that the rest of the crew (not counting the vegan) ate the whole weekend.

Also almost anything done with building or renovations.

More closely you understand the calculations the less it becomes math and more to just how things work. Math is funny like that.

  • Being afraid of what you dont understand is instilled to us by our own evolution. We lived tens of thousands of years in a state where unfamiliar berry or strange animal could mean death.

But you are right. School system svould be better in explaining what vaccines do and how they work and society should be better shooting misinformation down.

Also instead of ridiculing the antivacciners people should try to be polite and try to help them understand what vaccines are. Being hostile or condesending just makes people to withdraw in to their own safe belives

  • I absolutelly agree most people would benefit if they had the possibility and intrest to go trough all the settings. But most i also think most users would never go trough them. And for some reason some people just are against learning anything new.

Thinking about programs that show everything my mind goes straight to Blender. For first time user the amount of information is overwhelming, even if everything has pretty clear explanations and plenty of tutorial material online, for average person its borderline unusable program. Add the ability to customize the layout and thousands of possible plugins, if you mess with things there and you dont know what you are doing, you are going to have bad time with it.

Sorry i got stuck at the microsoft/windows thing.

Personally i hate win11 and if i were the king of the world, we would have stopped at win7 or xp. I also loathe how microsoft has started to force people in their enviroment, forcing people to have online account, in every turn trying to push their cloud service, trying to prohibit downloads outside of their store and generally trying to take personal out of personal computers.

But even after so i think their UI is pretty smartly designed for what is their core userbase. (Not that much for professional side)

Generally i agree with you and i see three kinds of UI designs: professional stuff like photoshop, ui that is trying to sell you something like most apps or websites and engaging uis like games or social media.

What i hate in modern times is when companies start to mix those things up. Like for example Canva is supposed to be tool for making graphics, but the sites design is allover the place.

  • I chose win95 because it was the one you gave as an example. I wanna also point out that i remember time when floppy discs were still floppy, so im not completelly talking from my ass.

Also i mostly agree with you. But purely from argumentive perspective i wanna bring up few point.

Symbols are universal reducing the need of localization. This is usefull when lets say my mother who does not speak English that well is searching help with some setting. Its easier for her to press the button with a gear, than reading from the list and trying to find option that in her computer is “Järjestelmä asetukset” and on the website is “System settings.”

Good place to notice how well visual symbols work are airports. No matter where in the world you are in international airports you can always wind bathrooms, exits, gates, shops and restaurants without knowing the local language bacause the symbols used at the airports are so universal. Similary now days i know to look for three dots or hamburger when im looking for more settings.

Thing to remember is that you and me arent the microsofts main customers. Most people using windows dont know anything about computers, and im willing a bet lot of money that MS have data of how many people use spesific menus and settings and that the now nested menus in win11 dont get that much of an use ie. Listing those are unneccessary clutter for most users.

Also i share your worry about kids gettkng used on mobile devices and having no understanging of basics of computers, BUT same argument could have been said when we jumped from text based operating systems to visuals, or when we jumped from punch cards to text based system, or when jumped from using cables to punch cards.
