People shunning or putting down training AI with pirated images while engaging in and promoting piracy themselves are hypocritical idiots because they’re engaging in the very thing they are shunning. You can’t shun copyright infringement and take part in it at the same time, that’s idiotic and destroys your credibility.

Piracy was never stealing, anyone who said it was is either an idiot or a troll (those anti-piracy astroturfers would fall into the second category).

Considering who lobbies for and enforces copyright these days (rich assholes) and the amount put into anti-piracy and anti-sharing campaigns I don’t think it’s helping much in those areas. Companies these days often violate GPL with little to no consequence (name one time a company got in trouble and there’s probably 100 that didn’t).

He absolutely doesn’t want to get rid of them, just make large corporations immune from claims or maybe even able to take copyrights away from others. Abolishment of copyright goes against these people’s core beliefs of control, they don’t want copyright gone, they wish to control it.

I mean you kind of should care since the tagline of the instance is “Be Weird, Download a Car, Generate Art, Screw Copyrights” it’s kind of hypocritical to stay on an instance if you don’t believe in or are aggressively against its principles. Like it wouldn’t make sense for someone to be a member of the piracy instance if they believe that piracy is wrong and intellectual property should be respected, similar thing goes for the AI instance. That might sound like a wrong comparison but the vast majority of anti-AI arguments I hear people barf up are along the lines of “we need to respect copyright” and “stealing intellectual property is wrong” “won’t someone think of the children artists”.

Then why are you on Lemmy’s leading AI friendly instance created by the guy who makes the AIhorde? Seems kind of like a conflict of interest…

I mean I agree with you if we’re talking about openAI, but not so much if we’re talking about lower end models meant to be self-hosted. In that case it’s not really much different from putting people down for gaming or other GPU heavy operations, and at that point we’re just fully leaning into the carbon footprint propaganda.

I mean if people use a self-hosted model on their own GPU that’s really their prerogative how they choose to use their GPU and the energy it uses.

AirVPN seems really good, I liked Mullvad but unfortunately they dropped port forwarding which really ruined them as a VPN service for Torrenting.

Because they still think they aren’t and want to pretend they aren’t, they believe the law is on their side and they don’t have it in them to lie to a court and/or falsify evidence that they did do it “clean room” and betray the law which they believe is on their side. No you didn’t but the main reason people get the wrong impression that downloading is legal is that it mostly goes unpunished and is very hard to enforce.

Not true, unpunished or hard to enforce doesn’t mean it is legal.
