As the world burns to the ground, we’ll always look back fondly at all the hollow, symbolic gestures along the way. Pelosi kneeled once and ended racism. Some wealthy women went to space and ended sexism.

A return to great power politics will end in pain and suffering for their people.
Let’s dispel with this illusion that Meta doesn’t know exactly what it’s doing. Hate speech, compromising US National security for access to Chinese markets, dumbing down political discourse and literally everything else, manipulating hundreds of millions of people to make them insecure and more vulnerable to advertising.
Meta is as evil as evil gets. All confirmed by insider whistleblowers. They paid to play, so they’ll get away with it. Just know what you’re supporting when you participate in their ecosystem.
N0body@lemmy.dbzer0.comto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How likely is it that Trump will be the first President assassinated since Kennedy?English1823·1 个月前A public assassination like Kennedy’s is meant to send a message. Trump would just have a cardiac event and never come out of the hospital. The real issue will be that he’s old and fat and eats trash, so he could have a legit health problem and die from natural causes easily at his age.
But then, President JD Vance. I don’t think anyone but Peter Thiel and Elon Musk want that. Trump sucks, but he’s the devil you know. Vance could be turboHitler or just hand the whole country to Silicon Valley. Rule by ChatGPT may be the worst of all possible worlds.
And the wealthy manage to come out on top every single time.
Profit-seeking with religion should not be A PART OF THE SYSTEM!
It’s the economic version of recycling and your “carbon footprint.”
Nevermind the gigantic, multinational, conglomerate corporate monsters that are destroying everything- the environment, the economy, democracy, etc. It’s actually your fault personally for not inconveniencing yourself every day to make zero difference.

Probably Israeli intelligence. Maybe the Saudis too.
N0body@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•Sergey Brin: We need you working 60 hours a week so we can replace you as soon as possibleEnglish143·2 个月前Brilliant work is done in bursts. Grinding it out day after day is factory line work. While that work is noble, the way it’s conducted doesn’t apply across the board. Task-oriented jobs should trust workers to complete tasks, not punch a time clock.
It’s about control. Tech bro billionaires are the only geniuses on earth, and we all need to fall in line. Nevermind that they are literal fascists who are actively destroying the world.
It sounds like an exaggeration, but efforts to combat climate change have grinded to a halt; WW3 is becoming more likely on multiple fronts; and, the most immediate problem not being addressed, the cost of living crisis is drowning virtually everyone. The only response from the right is to squeeze regular people more and pass tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. There is no opposition.
Europe already benefited from the brain drain in Russia recently. Now it’s poised to get the same promising young minds from the US.
If you want to bring knowledge into the world as a career, it’s natural to move away from places actively moving toward darkness.

N0body@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•Judge rejects Musk's attempt to block OpenAI's for-profit transitionEnglish936·2 个月前Normally, I’d be against blocking a transition to for-profit, but if Fuhrer Edison is on the other side, it’s easy to assume bad things happen if he gets his way. He’s a cartoon villain at this point.

Exactly. Vance is a Manchurian candidate for the fascists in Silicon Valley. He’s there to take over if need be or to run after Trump’s term is over. I doubt he has any actual agency.
I wouldn’t put Reddit on the same level as the other two, but the counterpoint is that their fuckups are so much worse and obvious that they’ve earned the spot.
It will never cease to amaze me that Reddit had struck gold as a source of actual puerile sharing sharing valuable information, and then they fucked it up and poisoned the well right when the platform they had became insanely valuable.
All they had to do was not be assholes, let people keep talking, and guard against bots and spam, which mods were doing for them with shit tools and almost no support. Genuine human interaction online is now a goldmine, and they squandered it with their sheer stupidity and short-sightedness.

N0body@lemmy.dbzer0.comtoshitposting@lemmy.ml•Should have been born a Limited Liability CorporationEnglish1·3 个月前It’s by design. A populace that is struggling to get by can’t afford to strike and resist, but striking is the only way to make it better. Peaceful protests do nothing. Only a general strike can possibly change things.
St. Upid’s three miracles were creating tariffs, eliminating tariffs, and begging China to relieve him of the consequences of his tariffs.
