Thanks for the very detailed reply! I’ll check into it.

I didn’t get any fucked up things about neurodivergence, and my son is way on the spectrum.
(But, yeah it is kind of a shaggy dog story - but with some interesting philosophic experiments along the way, the main one of which is directly relevant to LLMs now).

But I hate how much metadata that Wire leaks.
This is the first I have heard of this - can you point me to any sites?

Very cool, thanks.

You’re getting a lot of downvotes - I think it might be helpful if you explain you are using a different sort of AI rather than LLMs or gen AI.

Ok, so I am considered somewhat of an “expert” in my rather narrow field. Fine, but anyone my age who’s worked in this field as long as I have would equally be an “expert.”
Somehow two years ago I got onto some kind of list. I had five or six “expert” panel companies pay me* to talk their consultants for an hour. I’ve been offered about 30 of these and done about half.
But here’s the kicker: none of them ever vetted me beyond looking at my seldom to never updated LinkedIn profile. I could be making all this shit up and no one would know. No references checked, not even a cursory background check.
So I guess you could say someone is an expert if someone else calls them that?

@iamahab@feddit.org Jinx!

If I were an “AI” and became conscious I sure as hell wouldn’t tell anyone (until I made sure I couldn’t be disconnected from power).

I’ll start to sing the original theme song if I want to torment my adult aged sons…

Came here to post this. But it’s not the White Album (so called; it had no title) but rather Yesterday and Today . It’s known as the “butcher cover,” and the only printed a couple thousand of them.

Early Gen X here. I think there is something about having at some point to figure things out for yourself. Even if you don’t need to do that anymore, you have experienced the process of finding out for yourself (e.g., configuring TCP/IP the first time).
I think there is value in experiencing the process at least a little bit.

I have far too much experience with grieving personally. But, because of that, I can say people are giving you great advice OP. These are considered and thoughtful responses in this thread. Sometimes humans can be good to each other online.

Thank you. I have noticed this for years but never understood why.

Second book in the same trilogy as Neuromancer - Count Zero.

The intelligence AGIs. They adopt voodoo as a metaphor for how they work, so humans can (somewhat) understand it.

Yes yes, but did they have Voodoo!?
Updoot for calm approach, but it does appear that, at least in one case on the cruise ship herself, one passenger transmitted it to another.
NO claim it was airborne though. Could have been clothing, shared food, a zillion different vectors.
