  • You also have to keep in mind that both the police and military are “outsiders” to capitalists. They are often poor, and can side with the public. Capitalists rely on total obedience of the military and police, if that breaks, they’re done.

The whole “seizing guns” thing is a red herring. One general strike and no amount of guns will matter, capitalists need constant, increasing wealth. To not just lower their money but stop incoming money is death to them. Imagine every port, airport, train station, service industry business, etc, all with no workers.

They can call all the cops and infantry they want, those same people will constantly be asked to kill friends and family. The ones willing to do so will decrease in number until the inevitable toppling of the governing body.

A (former) leader of Japan was killed with a makeshift weapon. Imagine CEOs trying to dine out when any person in the kitchen staff could poison them.

  • Why would anyone listen to game engine devs on political matters?

(Quick edit because I can’t believe I have to say this: If you think people saying other people are allowed to be gay is ‘political’ you seriously, seriously need to reevaluate your beliefs.)

I don’t know, why are you whiny babies talking about it? Look at the topic of this fucking post. It’s about a Microsoft app that’s malware.

Yet… what’s this? The people whining about people being helped brought it up, unwarranted, and inserted into discussion. So my answer is to ask your self.

  • instead of pandering

Seriously do you guys read what you’re writing after you write it? Is there no moment of introspection where you go “Huh, so they’re helping a minority group that is currently being attacked by powerful members of our society… by being inclusive. I wonder if that is a net good, and that helping people under attack is a sign of strength and not ‘pandering’?” or do you skip to “People I don’t like are openly accepted by others, and their acceptance is abhorrent to my backing of their” (checks notes) “video game engine. I must rage at this horrible injustice!”

The sheer volume of queer people who’ve made the games you play would cause you to froth at the mouth. Those same queer people can’t even be out anymore without being shot at a gay bar by some fanatic, or walk down the street and not get assaulted. The humanitarian actions of a company that accepts donations is not reliant on checking with each backer to ask if they’re okay helping people. Fuck them if they aren’t.

I think you should take a look in the mirror and think, really think, about if a company helping people is in any way abhorrent to you, and what that says about you. Because I know that you know someone impacted by the opposite of that help, and you know their lives improve every time someone who isn’t queer, or a visible minority, or a woman, steps out and says “No, fuck this, we’re helping these people.”

    You can be that person.

  • I would say that Imperialism overlaps Fascism, but (one of the) difference(s) between the two is that Fascism goes a lot harder into Ultranationalism. Under Imperialism you have a King or Queen, and they are ordained by God to rule. Under Ultranationalist Fascism your race (or whatever they count as ‘race’, nation, etc) is what makes you superior to everyone else. It was a lot harder to get people to fight for Kings and Queens they only knew from coins, than to say “we’re fighting those EVIL (other nation people), whereas we are the PURE nation.”

Another difference is that Fascism adores and requires total war. Imperialism wants to expand, but Fascism wants to dedicate every aspect of the nation towards that goal. There’s that enigmatic ‘other’ that has to be destroyed, because it is both a weak and strong opponent. Fascism also says ‘violence is good for the nation, if directed properly.’ This means your January 6’s, your political assassinations, etc, are all highlighted as good things. ‘Drain the swamp’ kind of rhetoric becomes literal violence to allow people being killed.

As mentioned below, Franco’s Spain was quite bizarre, in that it had a lot of different traits (including fascist ones).

Imperialist nations can abandon overseas colonies, ‘let’ them become independent, etc. Yet Fascist nations need invasion and war to keep their economy going, which means they have to pick bigger fights. They also relied on slave labour (and I’m going to take this opportunity to name and shame the corporations that used those people as slave labour:

Among the slave laborers in the occupied territories, hundreds of thousands were used by leading German corporations including Thyssen, Krupp, IG Farben, Bosch, Blaupunkt, Daimler-Benz, Demag, Henschel, Junkers, Messerschmitt, Siemens, and Volkswagen, as well as the Dutch corporation Philips.

What people forget about Germany is that they had always planned to invade the Soviet Union. There’s a lot of talk about ‘if they hadn’t,’ but their lebensraum plan required it. In 1944 75% of their economy went to the military. They’d been deficit spending every year since the early/mid 30’s. Fascism requires that all effort be put towards the military and war, regardless of if you’re at war, but you need to be at war to get the land/money/etc you need to pay for the military that you made to… etc.

So anyway yes, fascist nations bully countries until either a bunch of them or one big one puts them back down.

  • I wasn’t (as) worried until Trump won. Now we’re going to have Trump sycophants running our federal government.

Here is a ‘great’ report on Canadian preferences for the States. It highlights fun facts like:

Q: An American Presidential Election will be held in November. Which candidate would you most like to see win?

Majorities of both men and women in Canada prefer Kamala Harris over Donald Trump. However, the preference for Harris is somewhat stronger among women (68%) than among men (51%). While only a minority of men prefer Trump, they are 12 percentage points more likely to do so than are women (27%, compared to 15%). Since 2020, Trump’s appeal has increased by seven percentage points among men (from 20% to 27%) and by five points among women (from 10% to 15%).

And then we get to this:

FIGURE 5 U.S. presidential election: preferred candidate, by federal vote intention (2024)

And if you were curious if it was just a Con thing, as usual no, it’s men again:

I’m extremely worried for my queer and female friends and loved ones. My queer child is already getting more and more aggressive threats from both people they know and don’t know. Two weeks ago it was threatening to attack them after school. Last week was a bottle thrown at them with a ‘vote Trump, fag!’ shout.

I won’t stand by that, so I’m going to dress and act as out as I ever have, so they come for me instead. Come at me, Cons, I’m not afraid.
