2·4 months agoI’m with you. I love paint.net. For me it’s not even necessarily the feature set, but the fact that it starts up instantly unlike others. Most of the time I’m using it to make a quick meme and having to wait for something like GIMP to open makes me feel like it’s not worth making.

Ask Me Anything@lemmy.ca•I'm a stone mason, and I'm half way convinced that a fair portion of the posts here are at MOST five people. AMA?
4·6 months agoDo you think it’s possible that stone masonry is, adjusted for inflation, more expensive today than it was a hundred years ago despite improvements in technology? I.e. Cheaper, shorter lived building materials/techniques generates reduced demand for stone masonry, causing fewer stone masons like yourself to exist and ply the trade, increasing scarcity and therefore cost.
Edit: also, huge admiration for your trade. I love stonework and wish it were more common.
I’m not who you replied to, but there is a big stack of ansible playbooks for it that make it pretty pushbutton. They primarily use docker. This is what I used and I got it setup in like an hour.
“Wow, you’re really shit at bargaining. They really took you for a ride!”

1·11 months agoAbsolutely loved the first game. I’m a little biased because it’s one of my favorite kinds of settings, but it’s really good all around. Killer art direction, palpable atmosphere and tension, interesting narrative choices, high level of intrigue, and while the mechanics are pretty simple they are snappy and engaging.
There is a better way! Ranked choice voting means no more voting for the lesser of two evils. Look into fo yourselves and others - vote to change the voting systems near you!

20·1 year agoI’ve often that about that if I could design a house, I’d have a room just like this. Like there would be a section of the house that was tower like and the only way to get to the room at the top would be to take an exterior balcony-like-staircase from the second floor to the room in question - the sole room on the “third floor”.
There’s just something about a room like that that makes it fell so isolated, peaceful and serene. And the exterior access makes it feel like a little adventure getting there. Like if the weather were bad you might opt not to go there because it would mean gearing up to make the trip.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What popular quote are you tired of hearing?
1·2 years agoThank you so much for saying this! One time there was a Twitter thread that started with someone asking, “What are some things that people believe/accept without having liked into it further.” Someone responded with this “the original phrase is… covenant…womb” and the OP replied with someone like, “yeah people are such sheep”. I wanted to explode.
But to back your point, you can go and read for yourself the very first instance of this phrase in context as the very old book it comes from has been digitally scanned. It’s old enough to be in middle English, but I still thought it was fairly easy to make out the original phrase as we know it today.
Haven’t seen these mentioned yet:
- Terror In Resonance
This is one of the newer shows made by Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). Follows the crew of a small terrorist organization as they implement their various plots - lots of intrigue that makes you want to keep watching.
- Megalobox
Follows a boxer’s journey in a semi-dystopian future. Very mature and themes of adulthood, especially season 2. And I mean real life mature, not gore and titties. I’ve never watched an anime that I found so relatable as an adult human being. Music is also extremely top tier and I’m personally a huge fan of it’s animation style.
