Lemmy has an “official” app. It’s called Jeroba and it’s made by the same devs.

115·2 months agoIf we have the will to fight this every 5 minutes, we should have the will to make it so we don’t keep having to. Winning the same battle over and over isn’t victory; it’s just giving the enemy more time and opportunity to define the terms of your defeat.
This is getting comically ridiculous and I’m tired, but I suppose that’s the point.

Can I have a source for that?
If it was hosted outside the US and not on AWS, would you use it then?
Unlike Whatsapp, Signal doesn’t store your network of contacts. They have your phone number, time of registration, and time of last connect to their servers. They go to great lengths to keep the rest private. In Signal’s case, I don’t see an issue at all, but I do see all the benefit.

No, I will never have this attitude. I refuse to believe that we couldn’t at any moment choose to change our course. The rich and powerful fear it. Believing things won’t change, sooner or later, only benefits them and not us. There is no magical right time for change, there’s only now.

Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is whatsoever. I am utterly disgusted. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it. I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.

There’s some good discussion about the security in the comments, so I’m just going to say that Lumo’s Android app required the Play Store and GPlay Services. I uninstalled.
It’s also quite censored. I gave Proton’s cute chatbot a chance, but I’m not impressed.

The idea that you’re somehow not entitled to privacy based on the publicity of a space has got to be one of the most successful propaganda campaigns used to strip privacy against the will of people.
Fuck you, I want to take a walk and generally travel freely without being tracked by some fucking “Flock” or Ring camera, or uploaded unblurred to some randos Instagram where Meta and Clearview will train facial recognition and generative AI, or having my entire life story and biometric data collected at some airport.
Take me back to the thousands of years humanity existed without obscenely invasive tech.
