brognak@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What were you surprised to learn wasn't actually normal?9·5 months agoI do something similar to the clothing thing but with buildings. Like if I see an old run down store I think about if that was someone’s dream to run and it just didn’t work, or they retired and it fell apart. I develop weird empathy for buildings doing this 😅
Dude, Valheim and Terraria are both numbers. Don’t think there’s a single survival crafting game that isn’t numbers. Your not beating any of the late game bosses in starter armor, even existing in the areas they reside requires bigger numbers. Not so say their aren’t mechanics, but they both rely on enemies getting spongier to force you to make your gear (numbers) better. Basically if you can use gear to brute force a solution, it’s numbers.
Ninja Garden is mechanics. Shooters are mechanics. Furi is mechanics. Your power level stays more or less the same, the enemies change but don’t really get tankier, but they force new/different tactics. If you get upgrades it’s mostly to bypass older enemies which you’ve already mowed down dozens of times.
This is all imo.

There’s also Anubis, but it uses proof of work not a maze.

Now, that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. A long time.
That’s actually a fascinating idea. All interstellar travel is based on the movements of the planets through space time. I bet it alternates between being technically faster and slower than FTL travel since you may have to wait for a time when your destination to pass into the planets past location.
Wow that’s a fun thought hole. Constraint certainly breeds creativity!

There was an excellent greentext from forever ago about a group who all independently rolled up their characters before session1 and somehow all rolled barbarians which leads to the creation of the muscle wizards who had spells such as:
Sleep - Hit the target on the head with a stick
Well There’s Your Problem - Engineering disaster podcast, with slides! And the hosts vary from left, to very left.
JunkyardDigs/PoleBarnGarage - Two separate channels. Love them both for just fucking around with old cars/farm equipment/vintage snowmobiles
2015 Ford Focus ST
Traded in my 11 WRX for it after Subaru tried to dick me around on a warranty claim. It’s got 128k on it now and it’s been rock fuckin solid dependable outside of the gas tank sucking itself inside out lol. Ford handled that.
Yea, dude doesn’t know how modern podcast ads work.
brognak@lemm.eeto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What podcast do you enjoy so much you binge old episodes of?2·11 months agoThis one may be kinda weird, but I regularly scroll wayyy back in the Giant Bombcast feed and will pick a point in time and listen forward. It’s like hanging out with old friends again, it’s always kinda bittersweet. You always have a soft spot for your first parasocial relationship 💜

Being able to quickly change audio outputs is awesome, I am always bouncing between headset and speakers. Also the pop up volume mixer is better than the built in one. Been using ET for years and years, can pry it from my cold dead hands.

brognak@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the most painful thing you've experienced ?6·1 year agoI had major gallstone attacks a couple times a week for like 6-8 months before I finally drove myself to the ER at 2am after being woken by one. Was in surgery 3hrs later.
Was utterly excruciating pain in your abdomen, and it just grows and grows and grows, and lasts from 20minutes to over an hour. Nothing ever touched the pain either, and my PCP misdiagnosed it as extreme acid reflux and had me on Prilosec for months.
0/10, do not recommend. Plus not having a gallbladder kinda sucks ass.
Not great against hard shelled insects in general. It doesn’t phase Junebugs unless you catch them right and they lose some legs but that feels cruel even for stinkbugs.
This is a feature, not a bug. If my battery lasted longer I may never actually get off the toilet 😅
Man, I am 38. When I was in highschool I was in an alternative curriculum Math program called IMP, and it is/was literally what your talking about.
Instead of memorizing equations we were instead given a hypothetical situation and learned to solve it socratically both through conversations as a class with the teacher, and in small groups to try and figure out how to solve it. It made me love math so much I almost made it my life, it was literally everything I needed as a severely ADHD teen. Everything was a puzzle to be solved, and when you solved it you gained not just knowledge, but the perspective to know where the knowledge applies.
