I’m going to be political for a second. To me, the copypasta is analogous to the conservative view of the world/hit issue du jour. The response, outlining how shit is way more complicated than an elementary school student’s understanding of things would represent the progressive view.

Glad to see this. For sure, there are plenty of sports I find boring to watch, but I can appreciate the skill involved. That, and the nuance and context you mention can really add to the enjoyment of a sport. Plus, everyone’s different and have different likes.
Most races are actually not as fun in person since you only see 1 part of the track. The rest is watched on Jumbotrons around the track. I enjoy watching some racing, but I’m usually doing something else while it’s on. The technical aspect of F1 continues to amaze me.

Oh sites like that are absolutely still useful! Especially for older distros or when you need a specific version that you can’t find for whatever reason.
Remember when packages like RPM were first introduced, and it was like, “cool, I don’t have to compile everything!” Then you were introduced to Red Hat’s version of DLL-Hell when the RPM couldn’t find some obsure library! Before YUM, rpmfind.net was sooo useful!

Echoing what seems like an overwhelming consensus. This isn’t a good reason to hold off on college. Not knowing what you want to do in college is a good reason to wait. You both need to be able to stand and succeed on your own before you can be there for each other. Beyond all of this, he has already given you his feelings about this. You should respect that.

I have a friend who changed his some time in his 30s or 40s. Not sure what the significance of his new first name was, but he had been named after his dad. He also too his mom’s maiden name as his last name.

So 9-5, and often way more than that, is spent computering for money. Free time needs to have as little “have to do” computering as possible.
d00phy@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has anybody here actually succeeded in getting an online conservative/right-winger to reflect and legitimately and long term shift their views left?English35·1 month agoBefore deleting most of my Reddit stuff, I had a good conversation with a conservative about climate change. They pulled out all the standard right wing talking points, and I tried to remain respectful as I provided sources that refuted every one. One they threw out that I hadn’t heard of at the time was “global wobbling,” which I had to look up. 10- minutes later, I responded, with sources, saying that it was yet another thing the right throws out to confuse the issue for voters, but something climate scientists are well aware of and can measure and predict. At that point, they thanked me for all the info and said they had some reading to do. That’s the best I’ve ever gotten. Don’t know if they changed their view, though.

Guys, they’re not going to be batting 1000…. On anything. They’re going to be breaking A. LOT. of eggs, whilst not even trying to bat anywhere near 1000. That will be them doing their “best.”
d00phy@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•How to have a boring and low-maintenance system?English21·2 months agoThis really is the answer. The more services you add, the more of your attention they will require. Granted, for most services already integrated into the distro’s repo, the added admin overhead will likely be minimal, but it can add up. That’s not to say the admin overhead can’t be addressed. That’s why scripting and crons, among some other utilities, exist!
Would certainly explain his willingness to get into bed with Trump. Birds of a feather and all.
