  • The requirement isn’t that vampires need to hear you say “You can come in,” it’s that you need to extend them a formal invitation and lower the barrier that protects your home. Theoretically, you could lie to the vampire, but they’d probably notice your barrier and wouldn’t get fooled.

…you do have a barrier right? You properly consecrated the ground before moving, drew the sigils, and cleansed all existing evil spirits? 'Cuz otherwise, any old spooky creature will probably skip the pleasantries and just get you.

  • Assuming the story isn’t fake, this could be a sufficiently traumatic memory to still be available even after many years. Really strong emotions can form strong memories, and cancer is a common enough topic that those pathways would see gradual maintenance over time. I certainly remember the first girl who had a crush on me, and that was back in first grade.

It’s on 4chan though, so the easy assumption should always be that it is fake.

  • Kinda a weird take, because BG3 is just Larian recycling their old tricks, and Elden Ring is just FromSoftware recycling their old tricks. Seems gamers don’t have too much of an issue with companies making similar games in a niche.

Think the issue is more that Bethesda has never had a clear vision for Elder Scrolls as a series and changes the formula up for each game, as opposed to iterating. Elder Scrolls has lost more mechanics than its added over the years. I think Elder Scrolls 6 would be a lot more interesting if old tricks like spellmaking and levitation were brought back.

because Larion was 100% a AA developer before BG3 came out, and it’s hard to justify changing their place in the industry based solely on the success of their breakout game. It’s also important to remember that Wizards of the Coast were major bankrollers of the project, it wasn’t solely Larion. Larion is independent again, and I imagine their next project will be closer to the quality of Divinity 2 (still an incredible game btw) than BG3.

  • Yeah but utter destabilization isn’t the goal. A complete collapse of the current power structure would just allow corporate interests to assume direct control in the name of peacekeeping. The goal is to use my wishfish to get us toward an egalitarian society, not plunge us into chaos. Have to destroy the old ways while guiding to a new way.

  • I mean, 2 and 3 are also largely a deconstruction of 1. The Matrix is an incredibly well made movie with really stupid themes. 2 and 3 do an excellent job highlighting why stuff like “Neo is the Chosen One” is fundamentally bad storytelling, but there were a lot of audiences who loved The Matrix fully and completely. I can understand why those people were disappointed when 2 and 3 weren’t just more senseless violence in black trenchcoats, but ultimately the series wasn’t made for them.

IIRC, 2 and 3 were meant to be one film, but it got split due to studio meddling. I wonder if there is a mega-cut adapting the whole trilogy into a single runtime.

  • Light Yagami could get pretty elaborate with what he required people to act out in a Death Note, but I’m not sure exactly how to destabilize our globalist economy with only one page. It likely starts with using the leader of a capitalist country to kill a large swath of it’s billionaire class at once, then forcing said leader to support the nationalization of healthcare, food production, transportation, mineral extraction, etc before trying to influence other capitalist nations to take the same path for the rest of their life before heart attack inevitably gets them. The problem is that I really think you only get to write this for one leader, due to the space requirements. I guess as long as the assumption that all the world’s ills stem from America it’s fine, but isn’t Murdoch currently operating out of Australia? Missing even a few key billionaires with the initial murder leaves a lot of powerful opposition.

  • Welcome to America, where we have degree mills you can buy doctorates from and an understaffed health industry that will take whoever they can get. Never trust that a medical professional will act with your best interest in mind until you’ve established a relationship with them and know they’re actually competent.

  • because it ignores the fact that there are people with significant mental illnesses that have been failed by the status quo who are still able to receive help through therapy.

The comment only makes sense if you assume therapy is like the strawman presented in the greentext. Broadly speaking, there is widespread evidence that therapy is effective in helping people with mental illnesses survive and thrive in modern society. It’s not just for liberal elites to chat about their first world problems, even if that group is most likely to be scammed by an unqualified therapist. Unqualified therapists do exist, just like there’s shitty doctors and shitty dentists, because capitalism incentivizes shitty people to go into these fields for profit, but they’re a minority in an underutilized and stigmatized system.
