We lost power for at least a week after Helene. There were plenty of people that weren’t prepared and freaked out, but by and large, I saw people pitching together to share fuel, food, water and company. It was a tough time, but it was nice seeing the kinder side of humanity.

My hot take, is that star wars pieces of media are only considered “good” if the viewer was too young to perceive the politics in the work when they first saw it. There are exceptions like rogue one/andor, but I think it mostly holds.

42·1 year agoWe were talking about codifying abortion, not land reform stretching back to the fertile crescent. We have norms about how we change policy in the US today, and you do it through a legislative/political process. We can dislike that process, but I don’t think disliking a process warrants contemplating murder lol.

31·1 year agoWhat kind of “reform” are you talking about? I think most reforms happen via a legislative process.

2·1 year agoYeah, there was a point in time where I wanted Biden to stack the court, but if Biden stacked the court, then Trump would just stack it again. It would be a real short term fix.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you're in the US, how are you preparing for the election and dealing with the stress?
24·1 year agoHe’s openly talked of rounding up illegal immigrants, and changing the laws about what makes immigrants legal. If he acts on even half the threats he has made, a lot of people are in danger.

As far as I can tell from reading your telling, he has a history of committing violence against women and lying about past events. I hope you recognize this as dangerous.

World News@lemmy.ml•US airman dies after setting himself on fire outside Israeli embassy
0·2 years agoMaybe people are understandably uncomfortable with self immolation? Nobody has ever liked an effective activist in their time. The civil rights protesters in USA had a <25% approval rate in the 60s.
I think this person did what he thought was right, and I will remember him for that. And peace can’t come soon enough.

I had to find the answer from this online. The first sentence is being interpreted by the second nun as: the soap wears away, doesn’t it? Because the second nun has been using it to masturbate.
