kinther@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•VMware perpetual license holders receive cease-and-desist letters from BroadcomEnglish13·2 days agoI stupidly bought a VMWare Workstation license when I first got on the Windows 11 train. Bright eyed and bushy tailed and all that rubbish. My experience was such shit that I abandoned it all for Linux and Virtualbox.
Fuck Microsoft, fuck VMWare.

I have a technical problem, I provide detailed reasons why it is a problem, and propose solutions. I ask for feedback from the team, because I don’t want to railroad people and appreciate multiple perspectives.
I’ll try to be more succinct in my messages going forward, which are generally only 5 sentences or so. If this issue still persists I have another problem.

It may be my perspective comes from western civilization, but do Buddhists have similar child abuse scandals?

I am all in on decentralized social media at this point. I really dislike the ads, astroturfing, and fake accounts meant to boost brands.

kinther@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you permanently banned off reddit? or do you just like lemmy more?6·1 month agoI left reddit and deleted my accounts, post and comment history. I had modded a couple high sub communities there and felt it had become less friendly over the years. I initially joined in 2011 but only really started using it during the Digg exodus.
Lemmy feels like old school reddit. So I use it 99% of the time and only check some very specific subreddits when I need to look up something for work.

Even in the time it takes you to read this comment, you have passed through vast distances on the rock we call Earth.

Yes, if it is a tax on speculation, investments, and gambling. I can get behind it being a trickle down system that the wealthy can’t opt out of.
This is the right answer. Maybe put my own gear on before we head out!
I was really psyched about AI when it first hit my news feed. Now I’m less than impressed. Most generalist AI platforms get things wrong constantly. Having an LLM trained on specific things, like math or science or maybe law, I could see being useful.
We’re at the “AI everything” phase instead of the “AI what makes sense” phase.

kinther@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Could Global Warming cause societies to become nocturnal?4·8 months agoWe don’t grow our crops in a desert. They grow in very specific regions of the world, often in areas that are suitable due to natural formations and easily obtainable water. Most of Canada is forested land that is uninhabited with no infrastructure such as roads, running water, or electricity - not to mention there has never been a large agricultural presence in those areas, so it would have to be started from scratch, if it is possible at all.
When you say we’ll huddle around the proverbial fires, it might be a very small human population. Our civilization (likely including both of us) probably won’t be around at that point.
kinther@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Could Global Warming cause societies to become nocturnal?29·8 months agoPlants don’t grow without light. Plants can’t survive extreme heat and drought.
Once it gets too hot or too dry to grow crops, it won’t matter anymore. Call me a doomer, but we aren’t doing enough to stop that future from happening.
kinther@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen someone driving do?6·9 months agoWhen I was younger I stopped by QFC and got a cup of chicken noodle soup. For whatever reason, I just couldn’t wait to eat it when I got home. I straddled straddled wheel with my elbows while eating it with a spoon while on the highway going 60. I am not sure if I should be alive at this point.
Given how VMWare apparently is pulling this is wouldn’t be surprised. I’ll give it a shot. Worst case I learn something new!
