Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•You've probably met someone who has killed a person
5·7 days agoThere’s an early Robot Chicken bit where he dies and asks silly questions to a book that can give him an answer like how many times did I listen to this song, or how much of a wall could my poop make. This question sounds like an interesting one to ask that book though. Actually I’d probably prefer not to know the chaotic randomness that is our lives but guess the lives part would be redundant at that point anyways.
My editor’s font/ligeratue changes the != To that symbol when programming. Unfortunately I have to use visual basic usually and type out Not most of the tiime but works well with C#.
Probably not a big increase in readability but I like it. Damn hate all the words needed in VB.net but oh well, could not be programming for work which would be worse and least still know .net libraries.
Wasn’t a line,Daddy has a credit card? Or similar, not sure I quite caught how our of character that was for anyone remotely typical for Japanese culture.
One of my favourite movies of all time, it’s so beautiful from visuals to the story of a kid learning to accept change.
Huh I just remembered the orders of arithmetic but parentheses trump all so do them first (I use them in even the calculator app). Mean I assume that’s that that says but never learned that acronym is all. Now figuring out categories of words;really does my noodle in sometimes. Cause some words can be either depending on context. Math when it’s written out has (mostly) the same answer. I say mostly because somewhere in the back of my brain there are some scenarios where something more complicated than straight arithmetic can come out oddly but written as such should come out the same.

1·1 month agoHaha I think of that look more often than is probably needed, like an elementary school kid mocking someone. Which for the movie was great and at the time fit well for that time. Nowadays who’d ever to think of doing similar on tv? Except maybe someone without shame.
I don’t know Emo Philips at all but him just willing to do that bit and the good Christian joke flood bit that I’ve read and made me think he was cool. Like what God cares if we do one tiny bit differently? Mean maybe murder but that’s not up for debate…well a few examples stick out unless he’s a real hardass about it. Hah I’d love to defend that line if there were a pearly gates.

One of my favourite movies of all time. I love the spoof type movies this was up there. Probably not as good as say Mel Brooks but hard to beat his movies and always enjoyed Wierd Al.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What old movies hold up because of a lack of special effects or because clever use of effects?
3·1 month agoIt was a favourite growing up (up there’s with Explorers, The Goonies to me back then), I hadn’t watched it in decades till a few years ago. I also thought it held up really well. Besides the exterior spaceship there’s minimal effects anyways (plus cute aliens of course which were practical) it’s more an odd buddy (new friend?) comedy. I still thought what was there was for the ship effects held up better than expected for the time.
Course may be rose tinted glasses and all, but I really enjoyed it last time still, plus time travel is always awesome.
Well you just reminded me to watch more Star Wars, guess I didn’t need it. Fun that there is little debate about which original to watch csuse they’re all so much more awesome than the rest. Yes I’m that old, and the shiny interior death star scenes look so fantastic compared to late 80s tv.

4·2 months agoI do see what you’re saying but how I see it, and thinking of all the awful movie tie in games from NES era, ET felt better than average in theme. He had to find the phone pieces and avoid the government agents while wandering in the woods. Not too too different from the movie theme in overall thinking.
Now I’m not saying gameplay was good or anything but think of all the cheesy tie in movie games of the NES era, they’re all some random platformer which sometimes alluded to they had a movie name. Of course there were good ones but best ones I can think of were Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers, not tied to a specific movie or episode. Then you get your Back to the Future has little to do with the actual movie.

2·2 months agoIt wasn’t so bad if you were a young kid in the 80s. Least my experience. Like what, I supposed to kill the shield of yars revenge again? Well that was more fun but still, needed variety.
That said would I play it again? Fuck no. Course I wouldn’t frost my hair tips again either, or willingly wear neon either.

3·2 months agoI had fun playing it in the mid 80s but I didn’t have a ton of games at the time either. Have a fond memory of it overall (maybe because I liked the movie), and still enjoying video games these days. Don’t think I played the Indiana Jones one to compare though.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If video games actually determined our real world behavior, we wouldn't be violent, we would be obsessed with powerwashing and all have CDLs.
6·2 months agoI always liked that one…*old ex raver, still love the music for sure. Actual shirt I owned was ‘I said no to drugs but they didn’t listen’
Edit, I always thought raves was my generation’s summer of love. Diluted but I think the idea for many were the same…of course not for all, but it’s how I felt it sometimes. The best people to be around were always so positive, and I so wished the millennium ushered in more positivity than how it happened. But … yeah we all know what happened early 2000s.
Not helpful for the question but it made me remember one book I read on Buhhism that was written by a punk artist that used to be around Ohio? Crap can’t recall the place think Akron was a city spot. Seemed like a fairly small artist from whati recall of the stories.
It’s fun to see where punk comes up is all, was never my particular taste for sound (or scene really) but I think their messge is awesome. Think all systems need their message reflected in controversial art, may not agree with their sound but so far a lot of messages have sounded better than the status quo. And sometimes seeing what the system brings shows what may be needed for change.
It’d be nice one day if punk couldn’t have the same message cause we did better for ourselves as society.

1·2 months agoDoesn’t Deadpool fit in there too? Amusing cause he’s not in ‘those’ movies. Never read those comics but just reading about Thanos, Deadpool and Death seems neat.

3·3 months agoIn a world without global connectivity think how much this would mean? Mean he was probably harassing the British so maybe not as much as it could…
I showed it to my gf she laughed, no insecurities when you know though heh. Cause LeBron doesn’t need to perform in the bedroom he does his work on the court, others have to do it in other less spacious rooms without millions watching thank fucking God. No viewers opinions when you’re there. Like a damn a parole hearing each time, they want to critic each bit. But have fun and make sure it ain’t too bad ;)
Hardly it’s nice and juicy and sweet. A great fruit overall. Though just my personal opinion everyone is different.

At a first thought, I’m not even sure it was YouTube but probably, Charlie the Unicorn. I’ve been online too long to remember old YouTube favourites specifically heh. Hell if papa Smurf lick my ass is on YouTube that could beat it unsure of exact years I watched them first well Charlie was 07-08ish if that’s where it was from.
Memory unlocked for Foamy the squirrel but that wasn’t YouTube specifically hah Neuroticaly Yours was the series name, it rocked. Probably shouldn’t re-watch but it fit well mid / latish 2000s.
