Games@sh.itjust.works•Japanese devs face font licensing dilemma as leading provider increases annual plan price from $380 to $20,000+
7·11 days agoits pretty rampant these days. My dad had been using a web hosting company since the 90’s, and recently they got bought by some investment bank that just raised prices about 6x with barely any warning. He had to scramble to migrate the bulk of the stuff he had on there to somewhere more sane.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can we have a healthy life only with fruits or fruits and plants combined alone, and if not why?
3·24 days agoPressure Cookers are wonderful for beans. Something like the Instant Pot can cook beans for you, as well as a whole bunch of other stuff. If you’re not comfortable with pressure cookers, there’s also slow cookers, tho they’ll take longer than just boiling the beans.
You could also just put the beans, water/stock, whatever seasonings you want in an oven proof pot, bring it up to a boil on the stove, and then transfer it into a 325F oven and let it go for 1-1.5 hours

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The moment we've all been waiting for: you now can have targeted ads on your 2k smartfridge
21·1 month agoMy parents bought an Echo Show that they pretty much just ignore nowadays, except to set a timer or tell them the weather every once in a while. All it does all day is sit there and show ads for random stuff. It makes a terrible clock because its too busy showing ads half the time to actually show you the time in a font you can read from across the room. I know you can ask it to tell you the time, but thats so much slower than just looking at a normal clock

Android@lemdro.id•Google is Killing Open Source Android Apps (Here's Why)
4·2 months agoThere used to be an exploit in an older version of the Authy desktop app that could let you export your 2FA keys, but i dont think you can sign in on the old desktop apps anymore (iirc the app was made in Electron and they left chromium’s developer tools enabled in it, which allowed you to run your own JS or something like that). It’s always a pain to move 2FA keys to a new app.
with one glance, that horse can understand the pain that is Haru Urara Arima Kinen

At my local supermarket, a Code Red is $3, a Can of Pringles is $2.50, and just a glance at the prices of different cuts of beef, it seems like you’d pay at least $13 for a pound of steak. Things like Rice and beans would probably be around the same price as the processed food or cheaper, but probably not anything that includes meat.

When my parents were shopping for a washing machine a couple of years ago, they asked their friend who works at Home Depot what seemed to be reliable and he basically said “anything but Samsung”. They had way more Samsung returns than anything else.

Technology@lemmy.world•Stop Talking to Technology Executives Like They Have Anything to Say
44·3 months agoHere’s a similar post by Ed Zitron (Titled: Make Fun of Them). He gives a few examples of complete nonsensical stuff that some big Tech CEOs have said, and goes on to argue that more people, especially those who cover tech in media for a living, need to be far more critical of tech CEOs and not just basically go “oh wow thats so cool” to everything they say.
