I’d agree. Also Lemmy is too much just dropping news articles and discussing world politics for my taste. Maybe being just another comment feed underneath a news article isn’t that engaging and interesting. I’d like to see more about hobbies and meaningful, sustainable talk about specific topics.

Linux and a browser with an adblocker will get you most of the way on the computer.
For real-life I don’t have good advice. You could move somewhere where it’s less common. But I think sports for example comes with ad banners everywhere.
Gitlab.com just started doing shady stuff and requiring phone numbers or something on sign-up if what I read a few days ago here, is correct. For self-hosting the software should still be alright.
Github.com is by Microsoft and not free software. I don’t know what direction Microsoft is taking with it, but it is widely adopted and they give you free CI and other stuff.
Codeberg, Sourcehut etc should be fine. I haven’t heard negative things about them.
“Best” is running my own Forgejo on my server. At least that’s what I think. But I also keep things on github, since all the people are there.
I think GrapheneOS isn’t made for that purpose. It’s made to be safe and do privacy well. I think signature spoofing, rooting to circumvent things etc are opposing requirements. I don’t think everything works. There are websites and other comments with more info. My Banking TAN App works, though. Google Pay doesn’t.

I don’t think history is a factor in the way we think back to WW1 or WW2. Yes, it plays a role. But in my uninformed opinion it’s more people just hate each other. They’ve lost relatives because of the other side. They can’t have this happen to more people they like. Hospitals and power plants explode, people live in poverty. People die. Rockets get shot every day. Revenge takes place. I’d be pissed, too. People on both sides are living under constant attack. Religion and history gets on top and makes it yet more difficult. Politics is more focused on retaliation than compromise or working towards a solution. Agreements are short-lived and people show over and over they can’t be trusted. It’s a bad situation in every way.
Additionally there are some people who just like murdering civilians. And they’ll do if they get the opportunity.
I want to express my solidarity. Thank you for sharing. It also makes me feel less alone. Seems it’s easier for some people and not so easy for others. I was always told to push through and remind myself it’ll get better. Turns out that’s not even half the truth. I stopped vaping a few months ago. And I still wouldn’t consider myself fine. The worst stuff slowly faded. But it took me way longer than the one or two weeks i read somewhere. It’s the right thing, though.
If you want my opinion: Don’t get addicted to nicotine.
I’ve quit vaping. And it’s supposedly easy for some people… But for me, overcoming the nicotine addiction has been hard and just shit and taken way longer than I thought. So, I don’t know why you’re asking all these questions… Just be a bit cautious with nicotine and things like that.
What’s with the Republicans, don’t they like their country and democracy any more?
