Technology@lemmy.world•Linux Inventor Says He Doesn’t Believe in CryptoEnglish
1·2 years agoNo, it can’t. It’s built into the protocol and enforced. On other currencies such as Zcash, you can turn off privacy if you wish. But on Monero, it’s not possible to opt out at all. You either have privacy or you don’t use it at all.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do passkeys work across devices?
1·2 years agoSome password managers support passkeys, such as one password and proton pass, which will allow you to use multiple different devices. Personally, I am waiting for key pass to have proper support before starting to migrate to them.
What do you mean by little restricted areas? Because I could do it anywhere in the United States. And that doesn’t seem like a little restricted area.

Monero@monero.town•UK seized new powers starting today [including destroying Monero]
1·2 years agoWell, if they destroy Monero, that’s bad for the person who gets their Monero destroyed, but it’s good for the rest of us, because that just lowers the inflation rate more than it already is. That makes the rest of our Monero more valuable. This is why you also do not write down your passwords because even if they were to seize something like my flash drive with my key pass database on it, they could not get into it and therefore could not get my private key to my Monero.
I buy groceries with monero every month since Jan 2023 to present
Opt out, use Monero.

Monero@monero.town•EU moving towards total monetary surveillance and banning all anonymous paymentsEnglish
0·2 years agoSo, Europe limiting people’s freedom, even more. Why am I not surprised? Use Monero and build the circular economy. Give the middle finger to these clowns. People in the US need to do the same thing because we are headed down the same path. That’s why I always suggest if you have Monero not turning it back into Fiat ever.

From what I understand, silent payments only gives the sender the ability to generate addresses that the receiver can pull Bitcoin from. So it protects the receiver, but it does not protect the sender and it does not protect the amounts. This is a step in the right direction for Bitcoin, but it’s still nothing compared to Monero.
Edit: Instead of having the receiver manually have to give you a new address that’s fresh every single time you want to pay them. This automatically can generate new addresses to pay them without their input.
