I think there is a growing divide between the most and least intelligent in society, and it has been growing with tech advancement (the gap wouldn’t have been that big in the middle ages). If we ever develop superintelligent AI, I can see that becoming an inflection point in this divide because we (Lemmy dwellers) will become as fallible to that AI as the people you mentioned are today in what is still a human-dominated society. Introducing AGI will vastly exasperate the gap between the most and least intelligent and I can’t see society surviving that in its current form.
And what is a Fucking Ass?
Look at all the things that are the result of humans direct action. Now understand how many jobs occurred for the person that finally “did the thing” you’re looking at.
Hmm, this is actually a great perspective to look at this from. I’ll try this out
The intersectional jobs aee also a great tip. I’ll start digging
So essentially throwing a ton of things at the wall and seeing what sticks (when you don’t know what thing (eg. job) you actually want to aim for)? Hmm I can imagine that being the best approach at times
You are right that being delibarate about picking a strategy and constantly returning to it so it structures your ADHD brain is a very helpful approach. What I’m looking to hear about is people’s alternatives to the strategy of googling when the goal is finding real-world opportunities like jobs or housing. Ie. other methods for traversing that net of chaos.
It does feel like a bit of a purity contest/circlejerk to me at times though.
Just say you got ill.
I guess that’s essentially what UBI is – benefits, except that they’re high enough and you’re not forced to seek for a job. The negative income tax could perhaps be constantly adjusted to respond to how many humans were currently needed in the economy; although I suppose that the size of the wages themselves would be enough to achieve this. Also, I think UBI could be paid for by taxing the robots, whenever it could be proved that the robot had the same abilities as an employee. The monthly tax could be the size of the replaced employee’s montly salary and it could go directly to the specific person that the robot replaced. Come to think of it, the legal framework could be that only employees are allowed to own robots (and not companies), and the robots would therefore work and earn directly on behalf of that person.
Now that is a good quote
Hmm, good idea. In my case it was a career that would allow me to move back to my home country (which I had to leave when I was a child). I’ll have a think about alternative ways to reinforce the identity that this path gave me.
not the other way around which is how this kind of feels.
Agreed.
In some ways it strike me that you seemed to see yourself as the future state person that you wanted to be rather than who you are.
Yeah, that seems to be the way my brain has been hard-wired to look at it rn :-( I will try to take a step back and reassess. I just have to find a way to detach myself from whatever my future plan will be which is hard.
Yes, it was a career with moving back to my home country (which I had to leave when I was a child) attached to it.
Thank you, this reply helps. You’re right, my post was quite vague, and I didn’t want children or found I was sterile, but the advice given to those people would actually perfectly fit my (completely different) situation too.
Hmm, I suppose it is quite vague. I just thought the problem was quite generic (and so would be its solutions) and thought the specifics would be a distraction.
Good insight
Hmm ok, I’ll have a look at it
No no, it got banned by the EU around 2000 and was already banned in many states befpre that
