It depends on where you’re at with fitness and health in general. Prioritize being well regardless of feedback here. That includes adequate rest, nutrition, hydration, etc.

For most folks, consistency is by far the most important factor. Stick to a schedule that works for you and do what you can. Maybe set up something like this:

• “the goal”: what you’d like to be able to do

• “the bar”: the minimum that qualifies as a workout for you

Maybe you don’t crush the goal every time, but clearing the bar will go a very long way. Make it accessible! Maybe the goal is a 30 minute run and the bar is a 15 minute walk, for example.

Back up your current disk! If you do it properly you can always restore your current operating system if this experiment doesn’t pan out.

Fedora KDE is an excellent starter choice. The DE will feel relatively familiar coming from Windows and Fedora is very much a batteries included distro. Red Hat guides are excellent and very useful in that family.

You’re right, the server, cryptographic library, and all clients are open source.

That said, I have a few personal caveats.

1. US government funding and markings are all over Signal.
2. The official app doesn’t make it clear how to connect to a custom server. As a self hosting enthusiast myself, I only found out it was possible when checking on your claim that it’s all open source.

That depends heavily on where you are in the country.

Second this! I like the interface. Especially useful for euro banks where you can auto sync.

Unbelievable. What would we do? Hand it over to a non-profit akin to the Linux Foundation so we can have a flourishing ecosystem of technologies sharing momentum while branching out into their own flavors and augmentations? All of that, for what! To serve a public good via most common piece of software used on a day to day basis? Madness!

I’m more of a dust man, myself. It runs recursively so it’s easy to pinpoint the culprit.

Even in the US, state-level representation hardly counts as local. Neighborhoods, towns, counties, etc. all have people representing them.
