About 30 seconds. But in my defense, I was too lazy to zoom in on my phone, and I’m about to go to sleep, and it was a good illusion.

Pardon my rambling and broken English, I know I often sound like an alien trying to impersonate a human being.

I can understand the complaint though.
You might not have come if you knew beforehand that it would be this busy. But now that you’re finally here, you don’t want to waste the trip and decide to make the best of it. You just grumble a little that it’s so busy.
Cuddling with my partner in bed. Especially early in the morning, when I give myself an extra half hour to just stay close together for a little while longer.

10·23 days agoI wouldn’t dare to sit here as a human. I’m too big and would probably squish them all by accident.
But if I got to choose to be one, I’d go for the spiders. You get:
- two extra legs over the rest
- your own supply of crafting materials
- lots of eyes
- and a cozy place to relax in
The rhyming style sounds so much like the Gruffalo :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your pet name for your SO, and vice versa?
2·2 months agoWe both use baby for each other.
Which sounds weird for some reason, when I write it down like this. Even though we’ve been using it for about 20 years now.
This has cursed written all over it.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•if we all lived within close proximity of sock processing facilities we'd have fewer problems with socks
3·3 months agoI disagree, those bastards will find a way regardless.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your last “impulse buy” and was it worth it?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your last “impulse buy” and was it worth it?
16·4 months agoA small 8 inch laptop that can fit in my everyday bag. It hasn’t arrived yet, so I’m not sure if it’ll be worth it.
It’s my usual birthday purchase impulse, the one time I allow myself to splurge for something for no other reason than “I want” :)I hope to use it to wean myself off of phone apps and have something that is more under my control while I’m outside.
I don’t have a favorite but Error Detection by Nemophila is an often played song in my list right now.
Oh good, so it’s not just me :)
SJW seems to be having some problems I think.

Oh dear, now I’m wondering if I’m on your list or not :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the first book you remember loving?
3·5 months agoThe Planet of Adventure series (it came as a single book) by Jack Vance.
It was more of an adventure book than sci-fi. Light on the science but amazingly descriptive with the details of its world building. It was the first time I could read a book and really experience it like I was there. I dug it out of my dad’s sci-fi collection when I was about 11 I think. It was a Dutch translation and came with a separate map. I loved that map so much, you could follow the journey and fantasize about all those other parts that weren’t mentioned in the book.So yea, it’s the book that opened a whole realm of imagination for me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you name your cars, if so what have you named them?
9·5 months agoOur car is called Tufje, based on some letters on the license plate.
My dad came up with the name as a joke and it kind of stuck.
Inattentive adhd. My mind likes to go on little vacations.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Did you ever get almost fired from a job?
8·5 months agoThey had to cut down the company from 15 to 8 employees due to a big client leaving.
I was one of those seven that needed to go. But one of those that got to stay had a year long sabbatical planned and decided to take it earlier. This allowed me to stay, but I only got to hear this about a week or two before I had to go.I already had some second job interviews planned and attended these anyway for fun. I wasn’t rude, but definitely a lot more casual than your usual applicant :)

There’s no real consensus on it yet in Dutch, but the most common are either hen/hun or die/diens. Both are known words that can be repurposed, but both have some disadvantages when it comes to certain grammatical rules.
There’s also some initiatives on new words, but they haven’t really gotten much traction yet.
There’s a rather lengthy article here in Dutch that explains it in depth:
