I mean endorsing violence shouldn’t be promoted so I do think thats a good thing
I think it’s easily understandable honestly. They got to this point a certain way and it’s become habit and a source of their power which they strive to increase. At a certain level of wealth it also just increases by itself.
Community =/= instance
Relies on enough people figuring out or getting enough issues with one community to actively do so. How often has this actually happened?
How do you raise your voice in a community if you get silenced there?
I think instances that host certain communities have the responsibilty of setting a certain baseline for mods. In reality if a community on a certain topic gets big enough most people will join the biggest instance of their community of interest.
I think instances should be allowed to set their own direction but genocide denial is something I really can’t have. Most lurkers and regular commentors (even on something like a meme community) will never see the bias and modlog of the mods. In an ideal world your approach would work but I doubt it does in reality as some communities become too big to fail and become the default. The mod would have to do a lot wrong to mess it up after that
The mods of that community don’t own .world do and they do have the power to remove mods that don’t follow general policy and abuse their power
I think the end is where some people are moving but I think its a bit too pessimistic. While kids are becoming more tech illiterate there is always gonna be a certain amount of people that know a bit more than the masses and they are not gonna let themselves be pushed around.
B… But I thought 2025 would be the year of the Linux desktop!
I switched to a different launcher a while ago. The one I use is Kvaesitso. It also has a widget integration and relies more on search although I can still pin Apps I want. I believe most alternate Launchers have their own Widget integration in a way so I’d recommend you try that
I think Germany already has quite a good social-safety net. I just also think that if you work hard the taxes shouldn’t be unbearably high and that a business friendly culture and good economy allows for a better social-safety net long term than if you cripple your own economy with too much regulation and taxes.
I said I’m socially progressive which is why I think its important to have a social-safety net where everyone has a decent standard of living and can recover to employment. I think when it comes to regulation we need to focus more on using economic mechanisms to steer companies the right way than just forbid or invent a new bureaucratic point. In international comparison the income tax is really high which mainly harm people from the middle class and a bit from the upper class although they can afford proper consultation and minimize taxes. Thats why I think instead of raising taxes international loopholes should be closed, there needs to be a harder stance on tax evasion and financial crimes.
I read up on some cases calculated by the IFO, Handelsblatt and from the “Sachverständigenrat für Wirtschaft und Transferleistungen” respectively. In there I found scenarios in which you could go from earning 2500€ to 4500€ before taxes and in the end end up with like 400€ more which I personally think is unacceptable. Social benefits should not be discouraging work in such a way. Those aspects personally place me in the party Volt which I also like for their european stance
I would say there is no definitive “Left” or “Right”. It depends on which countries policies we are basing this on. If I compare German politics to US politics you would not even consider the Democrats as the left — It shifts with each country.
I think while the political compass doesn’t show every aspects it shows that there are more attributes to consider when talking about political direction.
While I for example might consider myself socially progressive and more on the left side on the spectrum I’d also consider myself more conservative when it comes to fiscal policy for example. That’s why I also argue there is no single correct political orientation if you want to be a good person.
I’d argue Fairphones are pretty close although I’d probably go with a custom FOSS rom
I mean I use a fairphone with /e/OS from Murena. This solves the issue of open source and upgradability/replacability mostly for me. I like the idea of bare linux phones but the hardware and software is just not there yet. I used an iPhone before that and while I miss some aspects of apple hardware I am really happy to be able to just replace parts without this tremendous glue they put in their phone and like 20 different screws and steps to replace one part. Besides some minor inconveniences the switch was definitely the right move!
I would say that it is also a fault of the device if it encourages this brain-dead overindulgence that is clearly of the interest of many big advertisement companies. You can choose a device and OS tho and install apps that lessen the effect, but an simpler phone might not have all the bells and whistles but can get you quite far without offering such a possibility to lose hours off your brain just turned off.
I’d have went to the police if the school didn’t do shit or threaten with lawyers. I’d escalate all my options since this shit is not going down with me
That’s actually a cool thing. Never knew this existed. My comment was definitely a bit salty looking back. It’s just I didn’t find any humor in the post and found this type of post to appear often. Good to know tho, I’ll look into it since I’m curious what other type of comments they ban. Still bigotry is a weird claim, since they can’t seem to tolerate my opinion. Although that brings up the whole tolerating intolerance topic. I don’t think I was being intolerant personally. I just didn’t find the satire in the meme.
One assumption I made is that there will be a continuous demand for self build PCs which will be an entry point for a lot where you can run your own operating system and own choice of hardware. My next assumption is that custom ROMs are gonna stick around or at least Linux phones will become usable in the future since tech savvy privacy people are interested in this. Then I hope the EU will continue to step up and the administration after Trump will support certain right to repair legislation. It doesn’t need a giant group of people for a viable alternative to exist and I think there can be compromises between going stallman or giving up on ownership. Media servers and NAS for example are also really loved in a specific subset of people and I do not think people are willing to give up what they have. I get why you think the way you do and maybe I am too optimistic… I just think I’m not
