I think what they mean is still a mathematical meaning, just a separate definition of ‘divisible’ not limited to integers. The term is usually used for the set of integers, but really you could define it on any set.
“For x,y in S, x is called divisible by y if and only if x/y lies in S.” could be such a definition. Obviously you also need a definition of “/”, which is usually x/y=a <=> a*y=x with any operation *. This usually involves an algebraic Ring.

3·1 day agoI think those currently supporting Israel would very much welcome the US being a white ethnostate

What about base 789432? What letter do we use for that?
Boost. Only problem I have is videos often only play in thumbnail and load infinitely when clicked on. Not that important for me though.
With Jerboa and Voyager there were a lot of small problems that just made the experience worse.
Is this Loss?
You should check again. Pretty sure its plastic. No need to thank me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why did ~20 year old me save this to my hard disk ~10 years ago? If there's a joke idgi anymore.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So apparently full stops in texts are 'passive agressive' now. What other unwritten rules for texting have changed over the last couple of decades?
82·8 days agoDamn how old is the average Lemmy user? The amount of people (allegedly) using and expecting perfect punctuation when texting scares me. I never put periods after one-liners except for nuance and if someone else does it looks weird. Depends on the person obviously, for example when my mom texts me I know I shouldnt put much thought into such details.

5·10 days agoI had a very similar situation to yours. Missed the bus by a few seconds. Car behind it stopped and the guy drove me to the next stop. It was like 200m but made my day. Most people wouldnt bother. I hope one day I can make some stranger happy like that in an unexpected way but I dont think my social awkwardness will let me.
Shiny Rock got me laughing^^
While I hate cigarettes as much as the next guy, the stuff in parantheses doesnt really make sense as most of those are used for a million other things. How about
H2O(Urine)
Salt(Hydrochloric acid, deadly)Really no need to exaggerate the harm of cigarettes, theyre literally deadly enough.
How would that obviously be the case? I work with numbers a lot and immediately knew 550/2 = 275, didnt need to think for the fraction of a second. The systems are not equal across different people, every mind is unique.
Small example: Would you consider 10/2 = 5 system 2? I think most people wouldnt, but ask a 1st grader and they would probably need to think for a few seconds.

If youre gonna define divisibility on a non-mathematical term you could simply define it on the Ring of real numbers instead.
